Community Hub and Hardware Store

We believe that business should be a positive influence on community, and hold the values of:

  • Openness
  • Equality
  • Honesty
  • Fairness
  • Justice
  • Integrity
  • Willingness to go the extra mile.

In displaying these values, we aim to touch every life in the community of Handcross and beyond. As a Christian oranisation, we hope to demonstrate (in a small way) the love of God for all people.

In the community, and for the community

OUR STORY

Dudley House Trust was incorporated in October 2000 to take over running the Handcross Hardware store from its previous owners. Since then we have been supported by our many loyal customers and volunteers in store.

The Hardware store has established itself at the heart of the community as the go-to place for all hardware related needs, big or small, but has also developed and expanded upon the services and products on offer, over time.

We have fresh bread delivered daily from a local bakery, the best free range eggs, along with a range of locally sourced and fairtrade food products.

We are always innovating to improve our product offering, and are currently focused on reducing single use plastics in our products and increasing our offering of refillable and environmentally sustainable products.

You can now also find some of our products available to order online, with more products being added weekly.

As a local, independent store, we are hugely grateful to our team of wonderful volunteers who ensure that we can keep the store open to helpfully serve our customers.

We have a community room (The Upper Room) on the High Street from which regular activities run for people of all ages. You can find out more on our events page!

The Upper Room is also available to hire for small events, please contact us for more information.

Earnings from the store go towards ensuring that we can keep Dudley House open in the long-term, and can continue to offer and increase our range of community services. When you shop with us, you are not only supporting the store, but supporting your community.

We are currently working to establish a community hire service for a range of useful tools or applaiances.

Could you help?

  1. Volunteer your time for administration or staffing the project?
  2. Donate functioning appliances that you no longer need, so others can share their use, and reduce waste.
